Day 4. Today was pretty interesting. We
had our usual 8’o clock mentor time with Gracie and she told us that she was
going to send Meda (the nanny that Karla was conspiring with) home. She also
told us about the way Karla had reacted to things like this in the past, but
she really doesn’t know what to expect from her this time. Gracie also told us
about how important it is to seek wisdom from God especially in crucial
situations like this. God has guided her through many difficult times in
the past, but the initiative should come from us in the sense that we have to equip ourselves with God's word. She quotes scriptures quite often and expresses how in times of trouble, those scriptures are what remind her that God is with her.
After the girls found out that Meda
was gone, things actually remained relatively calm. I wonder though if Karla
would have reacted in a different way if Evelin and I weren’t here…you could
tell she was upset, but she kept it to herself.
I spent way more time
with the kiddos today. In the morning I played with Ericka and Ivannia and with
the boys in the afternoon. I finally borrowed Papi Lee’s guitar
and it turns out that Diego and Alejandro love to sing! Diego seemed more
interested in the guitar though, I bet he’s going to be a great musician some
day. Tonight was really fun though. The power went out right before we were
about to have dinner, but I love how power outages (brownouts as we call them)
bring people together. I’m not sure how it started but I think it was Heydi who
asked Papi Lee how to say a Spanish phrase in English while we were all sitting
together outside in the dark. Long story short, I ended up spending a good amount
of time teaching the girls English. I finally found some way to connect with
them! They like joking around a lot, and they tease me every now and then, but
that’s all part of the fun! God’s breaking down barriers!
Great stuff. Glad to hear updates from y'all!
