Day 3.Today I went with Gracie to
take Moises (baby that was born with a huge tumor and abandoned by his mother)
to Hospital Eskwela (public hospital in Teguc). We got there at around 8:45,
didn’t see the doctor till maybe past 11 and when we finally did we were only
in there for about 5-10 minutes max. I got to meet the first lady’s sister.
She’s good friends with Gracie and she’s known Moises way before he came to the
Heart of Christ Mission. She absolutely adores him! I think “adores” is even an
understatement. She’s really great with kids and I had a lot of fun watching
her play with him. Poor Moises though was deathly terrified of the doctors and
nurses. I don’t blame him though. He’s probably been traumatized from the many
times he’s been stuck by needles, but he’s a true miracle! His story is such a
great testimony of God’s love and power.
I had a great conversation with Gracie
on the way back. She told me two stories of some of her most intense (and by
intense I mean life threatening) experiences here. I really admire and praise
God for how she obediently responds to His call and how much faith she has in
the Lord. She told me straight up that she was literally terrified, but she put
her trust in the Lord’s promise that He would be with her and protect her, and
sure enough, He did. Its stories like hers that constantly remind me of
something someone once told me…she said, “the safest place to be, is in the
center of God’s will.” I find so much comfort and confidence in that statement
and it’s true. Matthew 28, in the great commission Jesus himself says, “Go...and
I will be with you to the very end…” It’s a matter of how much we are willing
to trust in Him and believe in our hearts that His promises are true.
